Vestibular patients who have dealt with either chronic or intermittent dizziness and/or vertigo symptoms for over three months may also experience an onset of psychological symptoms. This can include anxiety about moving or going out in public, or depression from being unable to trust their balance.

Brigit Lim, MPT recommends the webinar “The Psychological Impacts of Vestibular Disorders” for more information. The webinar, put on by VEDA (Vestibular Disorders Association), discusses how vestibular issues can cause cognitive, emotional, and social stress and offers coping strategies. These strategies include fostering a mind-body connection along with vestibular rehab for patients it may benefit.
